Sky Sports’ commercial value is built on one thing: subscribers watching live sport. Every pub that drops its subscription is lost revenue. Every pub garden without a screen is a missed opportunity to keep landlords committed. And every summer, when customers move outdoors, Sky’s exclusive content disappears from view.
The MatchPod is a purpose-built outdoor viewing unit that extends Sky Sports’ exclusive content into pub gardens and terraces: the spaces where customers spend their summers but where Sky currently has no presence. F1, cricket, golf, boxing, darts, Premier League; all the content that makes a Sky subscription worth keeping, delivered where the customers actually are.
Deployed as an estate-wide programme, it gives Sky a physical content distribution layer across hundreds of venues, turning outdoor spaces into subscription-reinforcing touchpoints for every fixture across Sky’s portfolio.
Built by the same team delivering the LED Fan Zone programme, the MatchPod applies Pixelhut’s proven methodology to a scalable format designed to protect and grow Sky’s commercial venue network.
Who We Are
Pixelhut is a specialist LED and outdoor display company delivering large-format visual infrastructure for brands, venues, and live events across the UK. We design, manufacture, deploy, and operate outdoor viewing systems at scale.
Our team combines event production experience with engineering capability. We build the hardware, manage the logistics, and operate the fleet. There is no subcontracting chain between us and the product in the ground.
We are currently delivering the LED Fan Zone programme for Heineken UK across the Star Pubs & Bars estate, the same operational model, team, and infrastructure that underpins the MatchPod programme proposed here.
Heineken UK / Star Pubs & Bars: LED Fan Zone programme across the leased pub estate. Large-format outdoor LED screens deployed into pub gardens for live sport viewing. Full managed service including production, installation, content delivery, and seasonal logistics.
The MatchPod is the estate-scale evolution of this programme, engineered for wider deployment at a lower per-site cost point, using the same team, processes, and operational infrastructure.
The Opportunity
Sky Sports already owns the most valuable asset in live sport: the rights. The opportunity now is to expand where and how those moments are experienced.
MatchPod creates a new layer of audience capture by turning underutilised pub gardens into premium, Sky-branded outdoor viewing environments; taking summer sporting entertainment beyond the confines of the pub interior and into vibrant outdoor social spaces.
At peak moments, World Cups, title deciders, major fights, pubs hit capacity and demand spills over. This platform converts that lost demand into additional viewers, longer dwell time, and higher-value shared experiences.
This isn’t just infrastructure. It’s a scalable national network that extends Sky’s presence beyond the screen, into physical fan environments. It strengthens subscription value, creates new sponsorship inventory, and positions Sky as the brand powering social sport, not just broadcasting it.
With a unique run of major tournaments ahead, this is a timely, low-friction pilot opportunity to own the outdoor viewing space before it becomes competitive.

Rollout
The MatchPod programme follows a phased rollout structure designed to validate performance, manage risk and enable scalable estate expansion within the tournament window.
Estate Impact
A layered activation model maximising reach, consistency, and operational efficiency across the estate.
Every pub that sees Sky Sports as essential to its summer trade stays subscribed. MatchPods make outdoor coverage the norm, not the exception, across the estate.
Big boxing nights and PPV events already fill indoor spaces. MatchPods open a second screen in the garden, capturing additional PPV audiences without venue constraints.
Sky Sports coverage currently disappears when customers walk outside. MatchPods extend your content reach into every beer garden and terrace in the network.
No event infrastructure. No scaffolding. No structural engineering. Single-day install per site with no disruption to trade.
Premier League, F1, cricket, boxing, golf, rugby, darts. Sky Sports content fills every week of the deployment window, not just tournament peaks.
Pricing locked from day one regardless of inflation, demand or market conditions through to 2030. No annual renegotiation. No surprises.
The Programme Model
The MatchPod licence is structured as a five-year estate programme running from 2026 to 2030. It is built around the richest cycle of live sport the UK will see this decade, but the real value is not just the tournaments. Sky Sports’ content calendar means every single week of every deployment window is filled with subscription-driving fixtures.
Three major tournaments. Two World Cups. A home Euros on your doorstep. But unlike a single-sport activation, Sky Sports’ portfolio means the MatchPod is never idle. F1 runs every other weekend. Cricket fills the midweek gaps. Boxing PPV events create overflow demand. The tournament is the peak; Sky’s content calendar is the foundation.
Each pod is deployed from May through to the end of September, aligned to the UK summer trading season when outdoor spaces generate their highest footfall, longest dwell times and strongest food and drink spend. That gives every site approximately 22 weeks of active outdoor viewing each year.
Major tournament years fill the heart of that window with an international competition. Standard seasons are not quieter. They are a full summer of Sky Sports content: F1 Grands Prix, Test cricket, boxing cards, golf majors, rugby tours, and Premier League pre-season. Every week has a reason to switch on.
This is the fundamental difference between a MatchPod programme for Sky Sports and for any other brand. Sky does not need to manufacture content for standard seasons. The content already exists, across every sport, every week, on channels pubs already subscribe to. The MatchPod simply puts it where the customers are.
A one-year activation agreement does not allow either party to build anything. Pixelhut cannot invest in estate-grade infrastructure for a single season. Sky Sports cannot develop habitual sporting footfall from a temporary installation.
The five-year framework changes the equation entirely. Pubs that own the outdoor viewing infrastructure year after year build a reputation. Regulars choose Sky pubs because the outdoor experience exists and they know it will be activated.
By the time Euro 2028 arrives, a home tournament, on your estate, with your infrastructure already proven over two summers, the commercial return is not a spike. It is a compounding asset.
Sky Sports commits to a fleet size. Pixelhut manages everything. The pods are yours to activate for every fixture in the summer calendar, across every year of the programme, at a rate that is fixed from day one regardless of what happens to costs, demand or market conditions between now and 2030.
Tournament years carry a full activation licence covering the complete Pixelhut managed service: installation, technical support, content management and full operational cover.
Standard seasons, 2027 and 2029, carry a reduced annual licence of £3,000 per pod, reflecting lower operational intensity. This is the licence fee for a full summer of commercial activation, not a retainer for a dormant asset.
The Investment in Context
The MatchPod does not need to generate direct revenue to justify itself. It needs to protect the subscription revenue Sky already earns from its pub network. A landlord who sees packed beer gardens on match days, customers staying longer, and Sky Sports content driving their summer trade does not cancel. Across a fleet of hundreds of pods, each protecting a subscription worth thousands per year, the maths is not marginal. It is overwhelming. Add PPV overflow audiences, sponsor activation, and campaign distribution, and the MatchPod becomes one of the most cost-effective retention tools in Sky’s commercial estate strategy.
Investment Structure
The MatchPod programme spans 2026 to 2030, covering two FIFA World Cups and a home Euros. Three major tournaments. One fixed licence per pod, per season.
All prices exclude VAT. Payment terms aligned to deployment schedule.
